On this day:
Museum status awarded to local tourism gem!
Normanby Hall Country Park is now classed as a museum due to the historic importance of a number of the features, including the Walled Garden and Coach House. It has now been renamed 'Normanby Hall Museum and Country Park'
The attraction already boasts a Farming Museum, where visitors can discover rural life in North Lincolnshire through recreations of an agricultural worker's kitchen and backyard, a saddler's, a blacksmith's and a cobbler's workshop. Displays feature old agricultural machinery and transport objects, taking visitors from ploughing to harvest.
Each year, collections staff create a new display for the Farming Museum's temporary exhibition area. This year's exhibition 'Grass Roots' looks at the development of grass-cutting technology over the last 200 years. Visitors will be able to find out about the history of maintaining lawns on a big country estate, right down to how the average person has kept their grass in check.
Season tickets are available for Normanby, with this year seeing the introduction of the new season ticket for one, which is valid all year round and costs just £11.
Cllr Christine O'Sullivan, Cabinet member for Sport Leisure and Culture, said:
"Many people who visit Normanby Hall or the Park often don't realise they have visited a museum, but they have!
"Sport England is currently carrying out an Active People telephone survey in the area, and some questions may ask residents about the museums they have visited. So it's worth remembering that if you have ever visited Normanby, you have visited a museum.
"The attraction is currently closed for the winter but will be opening again in March for the new season. The various season tickets are great value for money and are valid all year round. They are available from the gift shop at Normanby and now is the perfect time to buy - just in time for the new season.
